Chinese Summer Camp 2010

Exploring Our Communities and Nature Through Chinese

(can register on weekly basis)

Half Day Program:

July 5 – July 30, 2010  (Mon – Fri 2:00-6:00pm)

Tuition: $350 per week

Full Day Program:

August 2-6 (Mon - Fri 9:30am-4:30pm)

Tuition: $600 per week

Eligibility: children 5-10 years of age who understand and speak basic level Mandarin; (招收五岁至十岁具备普通话基本听说能力儿童)

Teacher-Student Ratio:  12 children with 3-4 teachers.

Goals: Cultivate children’s interest in Chinese culture and people. Help children explore the presence of Chinese culture, people, and nature in their immediate surroundings -  the NYC communities. Expose children to various Chinese American role modles. Improve children’s ability to understand, speak, read and write Mandarin Chinese.  Make their summer relaxing and rewarding.(让儿童在轻松活泼的活动周增强普通话听说读写能力,增加对中华文化及纽约华人社区的兴趣和理解)

Activities: In 2009, each week, we interviewed one accomplished Chinese American professional to learn about his/her life and work. Children compiled their interview questions, conducted on-site interviews, and used photography to document the life and work of each of the interviewees. In 2010, we'll continue such activities.  We'll interview and visit a plant scientist, a geologist who studies stones from all over the world, an artist, a Chinese backery owner, possibly the Mayor's office and other interesting places and people.  Just like last year, we'll also raise silkworms, pick mulberry leaves, make paper, cook, do brush writing, playing games, recycle garbage, and simply go out to play.  Whether indoor or outdoor, childrne are immersed in a rich Chinese language environment.

Registration:  email chinese.book.garden@gmail.com to check availability
